Roll, file, tear — the whole feature tour.
What does ROLL do?
ROLL (⌘⏎) turns a scrap into a task, leaving a one-line rolled scar where it was — most of its ink comes back. Roll a multi-line list and you get one task per line. Tasks are light: no dates, no projects. Check them, reorder them, or unroll one (↩) to send it back to the page.
What does FILE do?
FILE (⇧⌘F) keeps a scrap for good in the cabinet — titled, tagged, searchable, and sealed. Filing copies it out and leaves a one-line marker where the scrap was. Use FILE + KEEP if you want to leave the whole scrap on the page as well.
What does TEAR do?
TEAR (hold ⌫) scratches out a scrap that was only ever worth writing once. A struck-through scar stays in its place — you reclaim most of the space, but not all. On paper you never really got the page back either.
Do scraps disappear when I roll, file, or tear?
No — each one leaves a one-line stub where the scrap was: ↑ rolled, → filed, ✂ torn. The stub still costs a line of ink, and that's the point: the book keeps filling, so it always ends. A shelved book becomes the whole record — what you wrote, and what became of it. You can't delete a stub; it's a permanent scar.
Can I act on just part of a scrap?
Yes. Select any text and the verbs act on exactly what you highlighted. With nothing selected, they act on the scrap your cursor is in.
