Free for now. The price comes later.
I'll name a number once I know what it actually costs to run.
right now: free, in beta
While 48pages is in private beta, all of it is free. What it costs afterward is still to be decided; I want to see real usage before naming a number. You'll get plenty of notice before anything changes, and nothing you've written is ever held behind a plan.
Free
The full notebook, on a single device.
- The entire writing experience — the page, the 48-page limit, all four verbs, the cabinet, and the shelf ceremony — and as many books as you fill.
- Encrypted and stored on your device. Encryption isn't a paid feature here — it's how the thing works, on every tier.
- Export everything as plain markdown, any time.
- No trial, no countdown, no feature switched off until you pay.
- It all lives on one device. Carrying it between your devices — and the designed book covers — are what Plus adds.
48pages Plus price TBD
For the notebook that follows you between devices.
- Encrypted sync across your devices — web today, Mac, iPad & iOS as they land — the same page and cabinet everywhere, still sealed end-to-end.
- The designed book covers — the marks and finishes your shelved books wear on the shelf.
- An unbounded cabinet and shelf — every scrap you file and every book you archive, kept without limit.
- Everything I ship next, included. One price, no à-la-carte.
On price
I'm not going to pull a number out of the air. Tools that charge suspiciously little are usually selling something else — your data, your attention, a lane into a team plan. 48pages sells none of those, so whatever it costs has to cover the actual cost of running encrypted sync for one person, plus enough to keep building it. I want to see what real usage costs before I set that.
Pricing it honestly means 48pages only exists if enough people decide it's worth what it costs. That's the constraint that keeps the product the product, instead of becoming something else the moment a growth chart needs a new direction. The number will land after the beta — you'll know it well before you're ever asked to pay it.
No dark patterns
Stated here so you can hold me to it:
- No upsell nags inside the notebook. No countdowns. No "most popular" sticker.
- Cancel from settings in one step. Downgrading keeps everything you've written.
- Export is always available, on every tier, including free.
- No selling data, because there's no readable data to sell.
